MARS Board Meeting Minutes
May 9, 2006
The material forwarded on from Dave Tobin was presented in
less detail at the MARS meeting, and therefore the forwarded material will give
greater information and comes directly from the Senate.
The work before us is to urge our Representatives to support the Senate plan. We
have found great support among the House members, but a few in the leadership
have been somewhat reluctant. It is essential to successfully getting this
formula in place that it come out of Conference intact. Please contact your reps
and thank them for the work they have done to bring the House budget so much
nearer to the sums in the Senate budget, and as said above, encourage them to
ensure that their members of the Conference committee understand the importance
of the Senate formula and support it.

Tom, your comments today at the Senate Ways & Means Committee release of Ch 70
and other local aid numbers, proposed for FY07 were right on target. Your work
with the House and its improvements and then with the Senate in coordination
with MMA and MASC has had very positive results.
It is good to see Adequacy being addressed along with Equity.
Jeff Beckwith and Glenn Koocher also added to the partnership that was so
evident. A big thank you has to go to the Senate and House leaders and their
staffs that gave so much time and thoughtful attention to this need and process.
DOE staff has also been very helpful with their databases and responsiveness.
